First and foremost, I want to thank you for all your support and encouragement!
In early June I had gone to the doctor. My weight was 171 lbs. The doctor also ordered blood work, increased my blood pressure medication because I couldn't get it under control and suggested I needed to start exercising. Boy, have I heard those words so many times before! In the same report, the doctor's description about me was "obese Hispanic female".
On July 7th as I was presenting to a group of seniors & my friend took a picture of me and posted it on Facebook. I didn't see the picture until later when she tagged me. When I saw the picture I was floored! So on July 11, I decided that enough was enough and decided to start walking. I made the decision I would get up every day and walk. I posted my decision on FB and asked my friends for their cheers and support. The support poured in, including my sweet friend Vanessa Jackson.
Vanessa reached out to me and offered to be my accountability partner. We started communicating with each other every day after our daily walk/work out. So many times, I didn't want to get up but the idea of Vanessa texting me and not having an answer for her would just plain be embarrassing, so I would make myself to get out of bed and off to the park I went.
She had asked me if I would be interested in making a 30-day commitment. There is one thing I have always known, if you want to learn to do something right you learn it from someone who knows best and when it comes to eating right and exercise for those of you who know Vanessa, she understands it. You would never want to receive fitness advice from someone who is not fit. So I committed, I started listening to one of the audio books she recommends. What I loved the most about the book is it actually shows you how your body processes food, how your body reacts to food & how to develop a good relationship with food. I took the necessary steps and started the plan. Vanessa was there every step of the way!
On July 11th I started walking and on July 15th I started the nutrition part of the program. What have been the results so far as Oct. 9th: I am walking an average of 3.5 miles a day. I exercise my arms as I walk by carrying now 3 lbs. weights. I am also alternating workouts that include push-ups, sit-ups, weight lifting, and more. By continuing to eat healthy I have lost so far 23 lbs. My goal is to lose a total of 40-45 lbs. and I am now wearing a size 10 from a size 14. My level of energy is off the hook, my cholesterol numbers are perfect & my hormones are behaving the way they are supposed to. I am sleeping better, I have clarity of mind (I used to feel my mind was cloudy before), my blood pressure is normal, I have not had headaches nor have I taken painkillers since July 15 (I used to take an average of 4 ibuprofen often for headache and muscle pain), my overall health is so much better and even my job performance has been positively improved. My entire households is benefiting from eating right and are more ‘aware’. My husband Carlos started walking with me and also started the nutrition program on Oct. 3rd.
Vanessa and I stopped texting daily. I think now she can trust me and knows I am totally committed to living a healthy lifestyle and I am just truly grateful and will be forever grateful for having faith in me and her utmost level of care and love she has for those willing to change their lives for the best!
